On September 21 in Belgrade, a meeting was held between the Agency for Energy of the Republic of Serbia (AERS) and the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission of the Republic of Bulgaria (EWRC). The talks were carried out during an official visit of an EWRC delegation in order to expand cooperation between the two regulators. The delegation of the Serbian regulator was led by the President of the Council of the Agency for Energy of the Republic of Serbia Ljubo Maćić and the Bulgarian delegation by the member of the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission Alexander Yordanov.
The two delegations exchanged information on the regulations, structure and organization of the regulatory authorities and discussed issues related to cooperation at bilateral and multilateral level in order to improve the quality of regulatory action. At the conversations information on the priorities of AERS and EWRC was exchanged regarding electricity and natural gas regulation and presentations were given on topics including national targets for the development of these sectors and the integration of regional markets. There were discussions on key regulatory issues of an international nature and implementation of EU directives and regulations in the energy sector.
The heads of both delegations expressed the general opinion that the creation of an institutional framework of bilateral cooperation will be a favorable basis for future cooperation between AERS and EWRC. In this regard it was agreed that the leaderships of the two regulators shall continue talks on a cooperation agreement after completion of the ongoing election procedure about the new composition of the Council of the Agency for Energy of the Republic of Serbia.
