The Energy and Water Regulatory Commission and the Agency for Energy of the Republic of Serbia /AERS/ are going to actively cooperate in the field of regulatory policies and to exchange experience in order to increase the effectiveness of the regulatory activity. That is stipulated in the Cooperation Agreement signed by the chairman of the Bulgarian Regulator, Assoc. Prof. Ivan Ivanov and the President of the Council of AERS, Mr. Dejan Popovic. Mrs. Dejana Kostic, member of the Council of AERS, was also part of the Serbian delegation, which was visiting the country. EWRC representatives that attended the meeting were the members of the Regulator Evgenia Haritonova, Penka Trendafilova, Alexander Yordanov, Remzi Osman and Georgi Zlatev.
The heads of EWRC and AERS expressed their common opinion that the establishment of an institutional framework of bilateral cooperation is a favourable basis for future cooperation between AERS and EWRC. The agreement provides for the regulatory authorities to exchange information on regulatory policies subject to national legal frameworks and requirements. AERS and EWRC will develop administrative capacity through participation in specific training activities - conferences, seminars and workshops.
The signed Cooperation Agreement with AERS is a continuation of the EWRC active policy of expansion and intensification of the cooperation with the national regulatory authorities of other countries. EWRC has already signed bilateral cooperation agreements with the energy regulators of Republic of Romania, Greece, Macedonia and Montenegro, as well as with the water regulators of Kosovo, Albania and Georgia.
